Nicola Filotesio, called Cola dell’Amatrice (Amatrice 1480 or 1489 - Ascoli Piceno 1547)

A very interesting artist, active mainly in Ascoli Piceno, always working in a local dimension between the Marches and Abruzzo, but on an international level. In some way reminiscent of the position of Giulio Romano, he was an all round artist: painter, sculpture, and architect. Eclectic in style he was influenced by Michelangelo and roman Mannerism, using bright colours. He sets up his compositions in a classical manner, but then derails in his own personal language. His works are rare and much appreciated by a refined collectorship.
Fundamental is still the monograph by Roberto Cannatà (1991) and, not surprisingly, a few short publications by Federico Zeri.

Art valuations - Nicola Filotesio, called Cola dell’Amatrice (Amatrice 1480 or 1489 - Ascoli Piceno 1547)

Only very rarely on the art market, his paintings are worth circa € 200 000 but may, because of rarity and quality, cost also significantly more.
The Renaissance in the Marches and Abruzzo, just because of its eclectic character, is now ever more appreciated.
