Ilario Spolverini

(Parma, 1657 – Piacenza, 1734)

Arrival of a princess (Farnese?)

Medium: oil on canvas
Size: cm. 275 x 116

Spolverini - Ingrandisci l'immagine

Provenance:
Private collection

Remarks:
We are grateful to Prof. Alberto Cottini who was the first to recognise the hand of Spolverini.

This painting is very close to the series of the 'Fasti Farnesiani' that Spolverini executed around 1720. The princess Elisabetta was married to the king Philip V of Spain, and her voyage to Madrid was illustrated in a number of large paintings. This may be one of them.
See Raffaella Arisi Riccardi, Mario Spolverini, pittore di battaglie e cerimonie, Piacenza 1979, cat. 55 and the following numbers.
